This is science at work. Initially kinda skeptical and did’nt believe much how it would work or even work at all. Pour the measured amount of salt by the supplied paper triangle and added water and waited about two minutes. Then slide the little red switch to ON position. About a half a second of hesitation that is followed by all those three little LED to lit up. Not super bright, but they lit up and gave me enough light to let me read the instruction on the package fine. Amazing little magic of chemistry has been witnessed. Two thumbs way up.

I’ve always liked things that can stick around for years until needed and then work without problems. This light may be one of those.Pour in a cup or so of cool water, fill the attached paper cup with about a tablespoon of table salt, pour into the water, shake it, and turn on the light. It stays on for days. If the light dims, shake up the water. When done, dump out the salty water and rinse it out, then let it dry.They say shelf life is five years. The leds are bright white. The whole thing stays cool, and there are no fumes I can detect. The package says the battery produces 100ma, which is quite a lot.Absolutely worth having for camping, power outages, whatever.

This is not a bright lamp, so do’nt expect to light a room with it, but in an emergency this would give a small amount of light if nothing else was available.Though the listing photo shows two salt packages there is none included (and the listing does actually say that on closer inspection). Instead there’s a flimsy little paper funnel thing that you can use to scoop salt into the back. The setup process is very easy and it works flawlessly.

That this light even works at all is fascinating. Just add a tablespoon of salt (not included) to about a cup of water and this unit generates enough electricity to power its three little LEDs. Overall: 5/5We were way more impressed with this than I’d expected to be. It’s not flashlight bright (other than a pretty small flashlight), but if you had an emergency it would work well – and without batteries. The light is built right into a heavy duty, zipping plastic bag. It will stand up on its own and comes with a strap for hanging it. Operation is simple: add water to an obvious line on the bag, add 15-30grams of salt (a bit more a tablespoon full for the low end), shake and wait a couple of minutes. Ours is already cleaned, dried and in our hurricane supplies as a backup to lots of other backups.Quality: 5/5Love the concept, the materials and the functionality.Value: 4/5For the price point you can get a decent flashlight with more features, but if like a bit quirky ways to prepare for extreme events, this is pretty cool, but it’s not something we’ll be buying in bulk.
